Ik ben onderweg in Detmold

At the foot of the Teutoburg Forest, not far from the famous Hermann Monument and the Externsteine, lies the small former royal seat of Detmold. In the shadow of the magnificent residential palace, which is still inhabited by the princely family of Lippe and has been the centre of Detmold for more than 700 years, lies a well-preserved old town with winding, narrow streets. Colourful Renaissance half- timbered houses, classical and historicist town houses alternate, inviting visitors to stroll and explore with their small shops, cafés and restaurants. Detmold also has plenty to offer those with an interest in culture: the Lippe Regional Museum, the State Theater and the LWL Open-air Museum, which, with its historic houses, invites visitors on a journey back in time to rural Westphalia-Lippe as it was over a hundred years ago.
